Determining primary photo among varieties.

So is there a guideline on which variety to exhibit as the primary one on the page?

The examples that brought to mind this question are these:

  1. N#324837
  2. N#225817

So it appears History channel had a logo change to the one indicated on the Liberty Bell medallion in 2008, while the flag medallion was the first logo from 1995.  So each of their coins has two varieties.  Which one should be displayed and which one should have a quick pic in the comments section?

I guess those would be 2 separate pages … difference is too big to consider as variety

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

Don't you think it's a Legend variety?  I've read and re-read the guidelines on the differences between variant and variety but I would love to hear more on the topic from a veteran.

But also, to stay on topic...  presume they are unquestionably varieties. 😀

So each of their coins has two varieties.

What does that statement mean?  The example you gave are completely different tokens.  Why would you want them combined into one?

Each token from their series has two varieties:

The obverses are the same.  Each Liberty Bell, each Confederate Flag, down the line.

Here…

I see.  They're different tokens.  Different pages.  Link in the See also section.

To summarize, the links in the OP shows 2 types and each type has 2 variants.

There are no guidelines as per which variant to have as main image. I would suggest the most common one and have other ones in the comment section.

Sapientiae plerumque stultitia est comes.
Si c'est un grand plaisir d'être reconnu par ses amis, c'est peut-être encore plus flatteur d'être reconnu par ses adversaires.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Very good. Two questions:

  1. Why aren’t the considered legend varieties?
  2. Presuming they are varieties: which goes in the primary photo spot?

Thanks!

To say these two are varieties of the same type because they have the same obverse:

is like saying these two are varieties of the same type because they have the same obverse:

They are different types.

That's true, but I didn't say they're varieties because they have the same obverse.  This isn't a boat vs a handshake.   It's the same company updating their logo.

So, what's the quantitative difference threshold to go from Variety → Separate Type?  Just trying to learn and understand here so I contribute to the catalog without undue re-work and/or mistakes.

Ahhh, perfect.  Thanks pejounet!

type—A series of coins defined by a shared distinguishing design, composition, denomination, and other elements.

variety—A coin’s design that sets it apart from the normal issue of that type.
