Silver or Gold?

Here's the thing.

I've recently been obsessed with buying silver since it's one of the best metals that are out there. According to Japanese culture silver is worth much more than silver in Europe so I keep shelling out money to buy silver coins, some of which I'm really happy about, like my half crowns, British colonial 10c coins, and some quarter-sized Asian silver. However, when I look at my gold coin, which is no joke one pure ounce, there's nothing special about it, really. I keep it in a case and I hardly look at it.

So it made me wonder, is it just me or do you guys prefer silver over gold?

I prefer silver as I prefer the tones of silver to the gaudy gold. I also enjoy silver as it is affordable and sometimes can be mistaken for cupro-nickel, which allows you to score a great deal!

On the whole neither, I like bronze the best. however today I was looking at some gold Guineas and Half Guineas and I wish I had the money to buy them they were stunning.
I like gold better, because it is is the only metal with that color. I like special silver coins more than billion god coins, though.
Silver, copper, and bronze are my favourites. You can't whack a nicely toned one of those coins ! Usually when I buy silver I get for less than bullion value unless I really want it.. gold sovereigns are cool buy - I wouldn't buy one - there's one I should be in line to inherit but it's mounted on a ring and will never be removed. If I was going to buy a gold coin it would be something more than a sovereign; I really like the guineas but I would probably go for the mohur.

No aluminium bronze is a gold colour that's what the New Zealand 1 and 2 dollar coins are made of

Personally I love silver.  It's all that I collect.

Aluminum bronze looks like ugly gold. So does brass.
I admit the coin I own that I am most intrigued by is my gilt ceylon 1/192 rixdollar.. It's not very gold looking more like a classy bronze !

I recently bought a silver 1968 Canadian dime at face value. Somehow the dealer had it mixed in with the regular Canadian coins. I'm not sure how he missed it since it looked exceedingly silver.
Apparently it's easy done to the untrained eye I guess.. I'm starting to get an eye for silver even on shoddy eBay pictures I haven't bought a fake yet well of silver anyway.. Most noticeably the silver 1945 rupee like I've said before it was brown as if it had been in the mud for years so looked funny I guess almost copper like and I won it for 99p cleaned it up as at the end of the day I won't be selling it and it might as well and sure enough it came up silver non magnetic and weighs in water what silver does..
I agree with bam777. I prefer silver. Imagine what $1,700 would get you for gold? A small Ritz cracker. $1,700 worth of silver, on the other hand, is 100x more fun, history, and ornate beauty.

Mark where do you get silver under melt?  (;0 Local shops? Watchful eyes on eBay?
You must tell me, it's every coin collectors' dream! It's like... winning 7 Tour de France without training hard! How can someone possibly do that?

I quite often get silver for well under scrap value.  I watch out for big bulk lots.  Most people don't want to shell out $500-$1000 at a time.  But I pick up these lots a coupe of times a year, pick out what I want and then split up the remainder into small lots and re-sell.  I usually end up getting more for the small lots than I paid for the bulk lot.  So essentially I've gained 10-20 free silver coins and some free money.
eBay sniping !
Neither one, Bronze !! I've never seen the attraction of silver, I loved the look of Gold coins but they have always been out of my budget.. But I've been collecting coins since silver was $3 an ounce and Gold was under $250 an ounce.. So I feel the time to buy or invest in it has long passed.. These metals are at an all time high today. And I may be proven wrong but something tells me it is time for selling..  I will only buy a silver coin today if I need it for my collection.

Bronze however is still cheap and is almost as beautiful as gold when in Uncirculated. And some of them can have breathtaking tones I like better than silver toning.
So many coins... So little time...
For me its Silver as well  :8D  the few Gold coins i have are just lying in a drawer waiting for the Gold prices to rise. I do also enjoy copper and Bronze coins but Silver coins just have a strong attraction force to me.

I don't really mind, but silver is cheaper, so I buy that most of the time.

I prefer silver over gold, for two reasons, price and beauty... but of course price first.
