Coins fogging up? [επιλυμένο]

6 αναρτήσεις • προβλήθηκε 176 φορές
I was handling some proof coins with gloves on and noticed that the coins would sort of fog up when I touch it with my fingers (just like when you're blowing hot air onto a mirror or glass panel). The fog would disappear by itself very quickly but should I be worried? Like am I leaving behind excess moisture that will speed up oxidation?
That's called condensation from the sweat of your fingers it shouldn't be that bad bur cotton gloves can leave organic residue from your fingers. So personally I wouldn't touch modern proofs at all maybe with new nitrile gloves for a transfer into their final storage option if that's necessary.
Thank you Idolenz. Yeah I was using cotton gloves, thought they were completely safe for touching coins. I guess ill get some nitrile ones now

They are good but not all gloves are the same, cloth thickness, the amount of time worn are influencing the "safety" and modern proof coins are the most fickle coins of them all.

Use latex rubber gloves - like the ones you can buy in boxes at a pharmacy.

Aidan.
I wish you good days and health.
Yes, you need to minimize impacts and touches in the environment in which you store the collection. It is the seaside climate from higher humidity that is serious, environmental impact ( The air sample on the white filter in the high-traffic district is black for the day and contains everything unhealthy)
Finger print: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fingerprint

I pulled the prettiest coin out of my wallet, Copper plated steel: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2152.html

An ordinary mobile phone for fast photography is by the window and the coin looks quite nice in circulation? So I put it under a microscope and I just had greasy fingers after eating and I didn't wash and I also don't know who was holding a coin in front of me-at the store or at the hairdresser's.
these are human footprints only of an older date:

An example of gloves are to be on hand at a collection

So cotton gloves prevent us from leaving a fingerprint just like rubber ones, but that of nitrylex gloves are on every corner and cheap.
This is a duty, especially when handling UNC and prof coins!!
And depositing the coin I want to keep is absolutely crucial!!

And for all other pleasant touches, the conditions are not so strict :P
