Hi all -
Whenever I add coins to my swap list I always peek at the Numista Rarity Index (NRI) for curiosity. I know the number doesn't reflect actual rarity (ie: mintage figures) or value, but it's still a fun curiosity. So I'm wondering, what's the rarest coin in your Swap List?
For example, I did a quick survey of my swap list and here's what I found:
a) 1988 South Korea 5000 Won (Boys spinning top) (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces23044.html)
NRI: 64 / Mintage: 227,500
This is a non-circulating silver coin, part of a proof set so I'm not suprised by the higher NRI
b) 1943 Nicaragua 5 Centavos (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces14303.html)
NRI: 42 / Mintage: 2,000,000
Certainly not rare, but a pretty high NRI for a standard circulation coin
c) 1968 Uganda 5 Shillings (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10037.html)
NRI: 20 / Mintage: 100,000
Given the mintage figure I expected this to have a higher NRI. I guess it's a pretty popular swap coin!
d) 1973 Jamaica 1 Dollar (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10374.html)
NRI: 20 / Mintage 10,000
Another surprisingly low NRI given the mintage. I guess we all like our Franklin Mint coin sets?
So collectors - let's see what's the rarest coin by NRI in your swap list! Maybe we can make some trades?!
