Hi Everyone

My request involves this coin: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1655.html

According to the coin page, the small-flower version of the coin was made from 1989 until 2004 and the large-flower version from 2005 until 2011.

I have found in my collection that I have both a small-flower and a large-flower version of the 2005 coin, as per the following pictures. There are also small reverse die differences. These are specifically visible in the central star of the reverse design.

Please could we create a second 2005 line for the small-flower variant of the 2005 coin.

Many Thanks,

Andrew.

Thank you, I believe there are transitional types as you have identified, my Malaysian coin guide only dates up to 1991, so not sure if it is recognized in the books. Approved the request, as visually we can see it.

Is it better to measure the distance from the legend to the flower?

not a lot…

I think I don't see a difference.

On the “big flower” not so much, on the inner flower, yes.

Maybe a small difference:

The OP will decide, for me it's just a maybe yes, maybe not, but for the small flower in the center of the other side, there is no doubt?

Yes. Maybe.  Sometimes it's hard to tell what due to wear and lighting on the picture and what's really different.  Always better to compare UNC of the different coins (if you have them).

Hi Ole! Thank you for making an excellent image.

For me, the most consistent way of distinguishing the small and large flowers is to draw a vertical line that touches the tip of the left-most leaf. For the small flower it will intersect the “N” of “NEGARA” exactly on the corner. For the large flower, it will intersect a little to the left of the corner of the “N”.

As for the reverse flower, the difference is very clear when you have the coins in front of you.

Here is the difference between Malaysia 50sen 2007..

HI Murf,

very impressive images, thanks for sharing.

A ruler is not a very accurate tool, try get hold of an electronic caliper with two decimals

If you could send me or publish your images here, without your ruler and arrows, it would be helpful to study, if it's the same variant.

Thank you

Ole

I couldn't incorporate the different edges, since Murf didn't tell me!

Remove the “Arrows from small flower” comment.

Will do. Copy paste in all its glory….

The Large flower or Centre Flower Cut-in is the one with long Malaysia on the edge

Here is the version with the 3rd side of the coins incorporated
