I have 6 examples of this year. If my theory is correct, 3.6mm wide 1965 is a “large date” and 3.2mm wide is a “small date.” This is too small to be seen without magnification and a micrometer, and again it is only my theory on the difference. Thanks for pointing that out! All of my 1965 5c coins have the same "9", so I'm not sure if there is a variable 9 on them. Again, I only have six, so it's not anywhere close to definitive.

I don't think Ole's documentation for the 20 centavos is applicable for the 5 centavos as well. The digits are totally different as is the placement of the date.
Concerning the 5 centavos 1960, I would rather call it a thin date/thick date in stead of a narrow date/wide date:
