Japanese 50 Sen from 1938 (13) with missing character

4 αναρτήσεις • προβλήθηκε 138 φορές
I have a Japanese 50 Sen piece from 1938 which matches the entry in the Numista database with two exceptions: 1) it is missing the character which looks like a western "+" below the sunburst on the obverse side; and 2) it is not aluminum, but might be some sort of nickel alloy.
Is this a legitimate coin that has escaped the database?
The Numista database ID for the coin is KM#Pn69. My coin is shown below.
I would appreciate any information anyone might have about this coin.

Your coin seems to be 50 sen KM50, year 3 of Showa.

Why do you think it's a pattern?
Looks totally fine and legit to me. The "+" you refer to is the Japanese character, 十, which means 10. The current coin you show shows 年三和昭, which reads Showa year 3, which is 1928. If it said 年三十和昭 then it would read Showa year 13, which is 1938. Its Silver .72, .28 Copper.
Long time collector with huge double coin selection. Has huge selection of Japanese historic coins. Trade based on KM catalog values.

Kadish,
Thank you. You are very helpful.
I am an amateur coin collector and will stay that way, but I do appreciate expertise.
