N#313398

This page should be deleted. There's no 1799 1/24 Thaler for Mainz or Erfurt listed in Gräßler, KM, or Schön DM. The page has no coin images and I can't find any images in a web search.

There are two references in the page:

  • KM# 131 in Mainz is a 2 Thaler. In Erfurt it's a 1/24 Thaler only issued in 1800, which already has a Numista listing (some editing needed, but that's a separate matter and on my list).
  • Schön DM# 65 in Mainz is a 10 Kreuzer (page 724 of the 5th edition). In Erfurt it's the 1/24 Thaler issued in 1800 mentioned above (page 354).

I haven't added it since I'm not a referee for Mainz

History shows that you created the page, and @apuking  validated it.

I'll edit the listing.

That is a strange coin.

  • No mint mark, even though every Erfurt coin from 1773 on had a mint mark.
  • The obverse looks like the coins issued 1801 and 1802, but the reverse has the style of the 1800 coins (except the mint mark).
  • The tail of the R in THALER is very thin (unlike any other Erfurt images I can find) and without the serif the 1800 coins have. The M in SM has curved sides and is very thin, also unique.
  • The 1 in 1799 has a large flat base. I just reviewed images from 1756 to 1800 and could only find 1s with a bifurcated bottom. The coins issued 1801-1802 have italicized digits.

I wonder if it is a pattern or a counterfeit.

The auction listing seems to have a provenance listing at the end. It includes Slg. Walther and Gräßler. If the same Gräßler it didn't make it into the book. Anyone have the Walther reference to see what it says? (I tried now, and previously, and haven't been able to get that catalog.)
