I found this coin among coins i bought from an old man who has spent his life travelling the world.
What's special about it is that it's made of Aluminium, where as other 10 Laari coins minted the same year are made of Nickel-brass. I can't find any mention of it anywhere, save for an old ebay auction that is no longer accessible. Does anybody here have any clue of what it might be worth?
Thanks for the help, only my coin is not listed there. The only date listed is 1979, where as my coin is dated 1960. My coin looks exactly like KM#46 but it's made from aluminium, like KM#46a.
Απόσπασμα: radrick007Hello hagglund and welcome to the world of Numista. Can you please post images of your coin and tell us the weight and diameter if possible - Thanks
Thank you for your welcome! :)
The coin is this one: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces15821.html
As you can see 1960 is now listed after I reported it and someone was able to confirm it.
Since someone was able to confirm its existance I was hoping that someone would also be able to tell me roughly how much it might be worth.
Yes, I did see on the other topic that ZacUK had been able to find a site that confirmed this coin's existance but Numista members are always interested to see pictures of any curious or unusual coins and it would be nice to be able to confirm the weight and diameter are the same.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow and upload it.
I have the nickel-brass version of the same coin so I can confirm the dimensions are identical. My scale also says 2g like the aluminium variety should be.
Maybe it is a trial strike. But then how did it end up in circulation?
Απόσπασμα: bam777Interesting, what is the gold coloured stuff on the aluminium coin?
I've no idea, verdigris I would imagine. Most of these coins were all mixed together, no regard at all to what metal they were made of. Hence some of the coins of lesser metals are in rough shape.
