The Microscope Drawing Tube Method (MDTM) - An Easy and Efficient Way to Make Large Scale Die Studies

This article explains how die studies can be made on a large number of coins, even those with very similar dies, using the Microscope Drawing Tube Method (MDTM). Since the 1980s, the method has been used to identify the dies of more than 35,000 coins. It is an optical method, where die identification is made by the use of a stereo microscope equipped with a drawing device. To a large extent, the method eliminates the difficulties of traditional visual die identification.
